Job Summary

As a Data Scientist at RacerX.AI, you will play a crucial role in monitoring webpage performance, analyzing the loading of all web elements, and collaborating closely with our software development team to improve our proprietary image compression technology. Your primary focus will be to analyze and optimize how images are loaded on web pages by estimating compression ratios and employing techniques such as the use of sprites to minimize HTTP requests. You will work directly with our lead developer, Kusmin, to refine and enhance our image optimization software.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze web performance data to identify bottlenecks in webpage loading times and resource consumption.
• Monitor and evaluate how various webpage elements (images, scripts, fonts, etc.) load and their impact on performance.
• Develop models to estimate optimal image compression ratios, balancing quality and file size to improve load times.
• Implement and test techniques like image tiling and sprite generation to reduce the number of HTTP requests and overall page weight.
• Collaborate with Kusmin and the engineering team to enhance our image optimization software, ensuring seamless integration of compression techniques.
• Use statistical models and machine learning algorithms to provide data-driven insights for further performance enhancements.
• Generate reports and dashboards to track improvements in webpage loading times and performance metrics.
• Conduct A/B testing to compare performance improvements with various image optimization techniques.
• Continuously monitor evolving web performance standards and contribute ideas to enhance RacerX.AI’s technology stack.
• Assist in designing automated tools for monitoring and improving web performance at scale.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Web Performance Analyst with a focus on web technologies.
• Strong knowledge of webpage performance optimization techniques, especially in relation to image loading and compression.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or similar programming languages for data analysis and machine learning.
• Experience with web scraping, HTML parsing, and performance tracking tools such as Lighthouse, PageSpeed Insights, or WebPageTest.
• Understanding of image formats (JPEG, PNG, WebP) and experience with compression techniques.
• Familiarity with sprites and their use in reducing HTTP requests for optimized performance.
• Experience working with databases and SQL to store and query large amounts of performance data.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Tableau).
• Ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers and developers to implement performance improvements.
• Self-motivated, able to work in a fully remote environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with machine learning models for performance optimization.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools and cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, etc.).
• Experience with tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or other monitoring systems.
• Knowledge of compression algorithms and image optimization techniques at scale.
• Understanding of network protocols (HTTP/2, HTTP/3) and web standards (W3C, CDN optimization).
• Familiarity with Kusmin’s approach to compression and web performance optimization is a plus.
